We will be adding multiple lightning strikes to our solid layer, so I want each individual lightning to be a little less detailed. If we scrub through the composition, the lightning should animate nicely even if you donвЂ™t change the Origin or Direction markers.

This expression will update the Conductivity State of the Advanced Lightning effect every frame to the current time value in the composition in seconds. In this field simply type вЂtimeвЂ™ and then click anywhere outside of the text editor to apply the expression to the Conductivity State property.

Personally I think you'd probably do better with AE, but might be wise to skim a tutorial on 'animation with AE' to check it can do what you want. Animate can do more 'morphing' of the shapes, AE you tend to set stuff up with layers and parent each layer to another layer until you have a 'puppet'. It depends a bit what you want to animate and how much. It works very well with illustrator files - although you will either need to split things up into actual layers or convert to 'shape layers' inside AE. It's main feature now is its ability to output animations for the web via HTML & Js.ДЄfter Effects is designed more for motion graphics - and almost exclusively outputs video. Animate has some advantages over After Effects that do work well for vector animation, although I don't see much talk of it anymore. Animate is the new name for Flash as the web-flash plugin is pretty much dead now.
